Café L’Etranger is the Samayoa family’s coffee brand, honoring the legacy of their Belgian great-grandfather, who began growing coffee in 1913. Today, Liza, Ernesto, and their son Rodrigo run the farms with a deep commitment to family, quality, and community.
Their farms are located in Tecapa-Chinameca, a volcanic region with the perfect microclimate for coffee.
The golden-fronted woodpecker, native to Finca La Vega, gives this coffee its name: Cheje – a nod to the biodiversity found in shade-grown coffee systems. The Kenibon variety, a natural hybrid of Borbón and a Kenyan type, is cultivated for its distinctive flavor profile.
The coffee is naturally processed with anaerobic fermentation: cherries rest in airtight bags for 48 hours before being dried on raised African beds, first under the sun, then under shade. This method allows Red Kenibon to express its full aromatic complexity.
