Augusto Ortega is a third-generation coffee farmer and one of the pioneers of specialty coffee in the San Agustín region of Colombia. In 1985, he founded Finca Asturias and has spent nearly four decades cultivating coffee with unwavering dedication. Despite challenging conditions such as steep terrain, arid soil, and the effects of climate change, Augusto remained committed to the land and to his vision. His perseverance and leadership have made him a respected figure in the community, where he now works closely with Monkaaba, a grassroots initiative aimed at building fair, transparent partnerships for small producers.

After years of selling to larger exporters, Augusto took a bold step toward independence. Since 2021, all coffees from Finca Asturias, including this lot, have been purchased at a premium price that supports both high-quality production and the financial sustainability of his family farm. With his wife Marleny by his side, Augusto continues to be a leader not only in coffee growing, but also in shaping a more equitable coffee system for future generations.
